My blog was empty this week, but my heart was full to the brim. I am thankful and present recharging with friends and loved ones while soaking in some sun. There have been so many emotions to process.
A few highlights:
Mom turned 67 and became obsessed with the fidget cube my brother's family gave her
My oldest graduated from elementary school
My husband and I took an amazing stay-cation
We are all reading great books
The pool is open. Slide time!
We traveled to Nashville to the CrossFit Regionals and reconnected with long-time friends
Our CrossFit community came together to support good causes
Since reading always ranks high on our list of summer activities, I will include my current reading list. I am taking a step back from self-help and nonfiction to enjoy getting lost in some good stories. I always welcome book recommendations and would love to connect on Goodreads.com.
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (incredible and haunting)
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd ( LOVED it)
Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue (book club)
The Stranger by Albert Camus (reading aloud with Brent)
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz (book club)
Just Kids by Patti Smith (read aloud with Brent-cried our eyes out at the ending)
There are plenty of ideas swirling around in my head, and I'm sure I will get back to writing soon. For now, I have quieted the mind so I can listen to my soul. The result has been a sense of peace and deep connection with people and activities that renew and nourish my spirit. In the words of Anne Lamott, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”
A special thanks to Phinni Blue Photography for two beautiful shots of my kids. Check out her work @phinniblue.
